About Us
We are architects and designers on a mission to inspire current and future generations with an expansive vision for a future, then working to build that future.
What We Do
Our practice spans the fields of architecture and aerospace, with capabilities ranging from one-of-a-kind buildings to a new generation of space stations. Working across sectors enables us to thoughtfully transfer lessons learned and best practices between industries.
Our approach empowers partners and clients with a collaborative process that balances an aspirational vision for the future against the pragmatism needed to realize that future. Our breadth of practice is tied together by a common goal: building a better built environment whether on Earth or in space.
People
Adam Oswald
Founding Principal
Adam Oswald is a versatile design leader with proven expertise ranging from campaign strategy to designing destination high-rises to landing a new generation of astronauts on the Moon. In 2025 he launched an architecture and design practice, The Space Age.
Working in architecture he combined design and strategy to deliver creative work that translated into stakeholder value and delight. In the aerospace industry he has led technical analysis and engineering design products at Blue Origin while collaborating with NASA on two high-profile programs: Orbital Reef and the Blue Moon MK2 Crew Lander.
With advanced degrees in three fields and two decades of interdisciplinary professional experience, Adam brings a wealth of creativity, idealism, and rigorous pragmatism to his design work. He is passionate about building an inspiring future that enhances human well-being and quality of life.
Our Vision
The original space age was defined by the dual phenomena of humans traveling to space for the first time and the ensuing societal response that influenced art, culture, design, entertainment, and architecture. This is the language of Eero Saarinen’s TWA Terminal, the Theme building at the LAX airport, Seattle’s Space Needle, Disney’s Tomorrowland. These have in common a hopeful, optimistic vision for life in the future.
The Space Age operates under the same premise. The practice is named with intention: we are working to design and build a future filled with hope and optimism, and we recognize that in that future, space is just another place where people will travel, work, and live.
We are working to bring lessons from spaceflight down to Earth and take human-centered design to space. We deliver distinctive, forward-looking architectural design solutions in service of an optimistic future and the humans who will live in it.
OUR VALUES
At the foundation of our practice is a belief that building a better world is possible.
-
We design real things for real people. The best design ideas are rooted in reality and are achievable.
We believe good design leads to better quality of life and should be available to everyone.
We think in systems, designing not just objects or spaces, but resilient frameworks that adapt, respond, and endure.
We’re designing a future where space is just another destination where people can travel, live, and work.Sustainability is a fundamental way of thinking and working. We can help ensure sustainability by practicing innovation and responsibility.
Building the future requires innovation; innovation requires creative destruction.
Keeping the doors open and lights on is necessary but not sufficient. We must embody the future we’re trying to build: optimistic, bold, and equitable.
